The Mobile Health Care Unit

The Mobile Health Care Unit commissioned in favour of the Sangha with the collaboration of the Sushila Birla Memorial Institute. The first mobile health care unit was formally inaugurated by most Revered Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj, the then president of the Ramakrishna Order on August 20, 1989. The key hand over ceremony was held at Writers Building, the then Chief Minister, handed over the keys to the VSSS.

The unit started rendering service on Sept 3, 1989, at Sikrakulin gram with the blessings of most revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj the then Assistant Secretary of the Ramakrishna Order. Subsequently the unit was replaced in April 1995 with new vehicles and launched into service with the blessings of most revered Swami Lokeswaranandaji Maharaj, the then Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark.

The Mobile Healthcare Unit has been working efficiently covering all the major components of the primary Health care programme through Curative, Preventive and Promotive aspects. It is equipped with the most sophisticated medical gadgets like portable X-Ray machine, slide projector, pathological materials along with medicine and a generator set. A team comprises of a full-time Medical Officer, Pharmacist, Supervisor and two lady volunteers. A small car accompanies the team to cover the interior villages. Thus, it may be compared with a well equipped Primary Health Care Unit on wheels. The Mobile Unit visits five rural centres by rotation every week and stays three days at a stretch at each Centre.
